Effect Of Accelerated Pension Changes On Women Born In The 1950s
EDM number 810 in 2015-16, proposed by Philippa Whitford on 03/12/2015.
Categorised under the topic of Pensions.
That this House recognises the impact of pension changes on women born between 6 April 1950 and 5 April 1955 who originally expected pension equalisation to be phased-in steadily between 2010 and 2020 but have been caught by acceleration to their retirement age after the Pensions Act 2011; notes that the speed of change has prevented these women making financial preparations for a secure retirement; calls on the Government to undertake in future not to bring in pension changes on a short-term basis as this has a huge impact on those affected; and further calls on the Government to look at better transitional arrangements for women who have found their state pension age (SPA) changing at short notice on more than one occasion, noting that for some the changes to the SPA has amounted to almost six years.
