Photofinishing Industry And The New Royal Mail Charging Structure
EDM number 772 in 2003-04, proposed by Fabian Hamilton on 04/03/2004.
That this House notes that the Royal Mail is to change its pricing structure from weight-based charging to size-based charging; notes that a small but important part of its commercial customer base depends upon weight-based charging for its business; believes that the photofinishing industry which employs over 1,000 people would be put out of business as a result of this change; regrets that this would have a detrimental effect upon the constituents of every honourable Member of this House; notes that over one million people in the United Kingdom use the services of the photofinishing industry; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to press the Royal Mail to make an exception for this industry in order to save jobs and ensure the continuation of a valuable service to customers who are often unable to receive finished photographs by other means.
