Hms Coventry
EDM number 817 in 2001-02, proposed by Jim Cunningham on 06/02/2002.
That this House recognises that since 1658 one of Her Majesty's ships has bore the name HMS 'Coventry'; notes that her successors have taken part in both world wars and the Falklands Campaign and that the most recent ship has been deployed no less than 14 times in various tasks over the globe; further notes that HMS 'Coventry' was recently decommissioned at Devonport; and in order to retain the traditional and important links between the Royal Navy, Coventry Cathedral and the City, calls on the Ministry of Defence and the First Sea Lord to commission a new ship HMS 'Coventry'.
