That this House recognises that Sunday 19th November 2017 was the 60th anniversary of the Kames Colliery Disaster that cost the lives of 17 local men, Thomas Burnside aged 58, Thomas Casey aged 18, Alexander Crawford aged 37, John Dalziel aged 34, Timothy Dillon aged 44, Andrew Findlay aged 20, William Hendry aged 30, Robert Lowe aged 53, James Marshall aged 69, Donald McGarry aged 18, William McKay aged 48, John McKean aged 53, James Samson aged 37, Robert Smith aged 33, William Smith aged 47 and John Walker aged 37; notes that tragically Kames was deemed to be one of the safest pits in the UK and had undergone modernisation with the intention being to make it safer; further notes that the Muirkirk Community came together 60 years later to remember and pay respect to those who lost their lives; commends Muirkirk Community Council for organizing the commemorative event; and agrees that no worker should ever go to work never to return home and that the miners' memorial in Muirkirk is a lasting tribute to all the miners known to have lost their lives in local mines.
