I Am Me Scotland
EDM number 514 in 2017-19, proposed by Gavin Newlands on 07/11/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Charities and Disability discrimination.
That this House congratulates I Am Me Scotland on winning Disability Charity of the Year Scotland at the Charity Champion Awards, with this success coming hot on the heels of other recognition at the Diversity Awards and at the Renfrewshire Employability Award ceremony; notes that this Renfrewshire-based group works with Police Scotland, and others, to raise awareness of disability hate crime and tackle the issue of prejudiced attitudes and behaviours; recognises that an estimated 62,000 hate crimes are committed against disabled people each year with the majority of those crimes going unreported; welcomes the brilliant work by the staff and volunteers of I Am Me Scotland in helping to create a society where disabled people are not victimised or bullied; and wishes I Am Me Scotland continued success in the future.
