Young Poet Wins Opportunity To Meet President Obama

That this House congratulates Mila Stricevic, a pupil at Hyndland Secondary School in Glasgow, on her success in a writing competition to meet former US President Barack Obama at the Hunter Foundation's charity dinner in May 2017; notes the strong message of inclusion and tolerance in Mila's winning poem, If I Ruled Scotland; understands that Mila was delighted to read the poem to the audience, including President Obama, at the dinner in the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 26 May 2017; recognises the significance of the opportunity to attend such a prestigious event and to hear from the 44th President of the US; commends the Hunter Foundation on raising £670,000 for Scottish charities which will help hundreds of people, many of whom are children, across the country; thanks English teacher, Mandy McGuire, in the English Department at Hyndland Secondary School for her support in the competition; and wishes Mila all the success in the future in her pursuit of plans to work for social justice.
