The Life Of John Lambie

EDM number 1175 in 2017-19, proposed by Patrick Grady on 18/04/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Death and Sports.

That this House notes with sadness the death of the legendary football player and manager, John Lambie, at the age of 77; celebrates Lambie's playing career as full-back with both Falkirk and St. Johnstone before becoming a manager, with periods spent at Hibernian, two at Hamilton Academical where he won the First Division in 1986, and Falkirk; believes that he truly made his mark with Partick Thistle, a team he managed four times, guiding the team to consecutive promotions and entry to the Scottish Premier League in 2002, while also leading it to the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup in the same year, a relationship acknowledged by one commentator who noted that John and the Jags were made for one another; understands that Lambie was fabled for his industrial language, immortalised in a dressing room motivational speech that was recorded for posterity in the BBC Scotland documentary, Grasping the Thistle, and that he also had a fondness for cigar smoking and pigeons; further believes that Scottish football will be a far less colourful place without John Lambie; and sends its sincere condolences to his family.
