Cecil Frances Alexander
EDM number 1124 in 2017-19, proposed by Gregory Campbell on 27/03/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Performing arts and Religion and faith communities.
That this House notes that April 2018 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the famous hymn writer and balladeer Mrs Cecil Frances Alexander; acknowledges that some of the most famous hymns and Christmas carols in the English language, such as Once in Royal David's City and There is a Green Hill Far Away, were penned by Mrs Alexander, who lived for more than 60 years in Londonderry and the north west of Ireland; and expresses the hope that her legacy will be remembered for future generations.
