Guide Dogs Restrictions
EDM number 96 in 2016-17, proposed by Alan Meale on 25/05/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Animals, Charities, Disability discrimination, Roads and Service industries.
That this House is aware that guide dog owners and other assistance dog owners are still, even though it is illegal, frequently turned away from places and businesses simply because they have a dog with them, this practice being common place amongst taxi and private hire vehicle providers which often leaves vulnerable users left feeling stranded and alone; pays tribute to the charity Guide Dogs for the Blind who are campaigning to increase maximum fine levels for drivers who refuse and to make disability awareness training a pre-requisite condition upon any driver operating under such a licence; and calls upon the Government to introduce appropriate legislation at the earliest opportunity to legalise this demand.
