Categorised under the topics of Arms control and Australasia.
That this House notes that the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation on Nuclear Weapons (NPT) Review Conference met again at the United Nations in New York in April and May 2015; understands that the UK signed up to and ratified the NPT in 1968, including Article VI, which creates an obligation in good faith of cessation of the nuclear arms race and achievement of nuclear disarmament; commends the government of the Marshall Islands, whose people have, it understands, suffered grievous genetic injuries through nuclear weapons testing on their territory, for its courageous legal action against the Government on 24 April 2014 in the International Court of Justice for the failure of the Government to meet its duties under the NPT; recognises the spirit of the Marshall Islanders' actions under international law and the NPT Article VI; and further notes calls for the complete removal of the Trident nuclear weapons system at Faslane from Scotland and for it not to be relocated anywhere else in these islands in order to comply fully with the 1968 NPT obligations.
