EDM number 499 in 2016-17, proposed by Patrick Grady on 10/10/2016.
Categorised under the topic of Charities.

That this House congratulates Glasgow-based Woodlands Community Development Trust on their Woodlands Community Garden Project being named the most inspirational gardening project in the UK and being the overall winner of the Cultivation Street 2016 competition, organised by television gardener David Domoney, for which they will receive £10,000 of National Garden Gift Vouchers; commends the remarkable transformation of the derelict site in Glasgow's Woodlands area into a thriving community garden which supports the local community through educational activities promoting health and well-being and environmental protection; recognises the value of the community café which serves healthy and nutritious vegetarian meals sourced from the garden for free to those in the community who are struggling; understands that there are ongoing plans to provide meals at a weekly homework club; respects the garden's focus on a positive model of participation by actively involving beneficiaries in the preparation, cooking and serving of food in the café; welcomes the recently launched free music workshop and future plans to develop a new creative hub and studio to enable local artists to have access to affordable and high quality studio space; is grateful to all the staff and volunteers who work hard to provide a sanctuary in the garden and who bring the community together; and wishes Woodland Community Development Trust every success for the future.
