Personal Independence Payment Assessments
EDM number 824 in 2015-16, proposed by Drew Hendry on 07/12/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Benefits policy and Sickness, disability and carers' benefits.
That this House recognises the challenges currently faced by claimants making applications for personal independent payments (PIP); notes that, in some parts of the country, the rate of decisions being overturned at appeal stage is as high as 47 per cent; further recognises that this results in many vulnerable disabled people being put through unnecessary stress and financial pressure, and that personal circumstances including pre-existing health conditions are not being fully taken into account; therefore considers that the existing PIP assessment regime is not fit for purpose;·and calls on the Government to undertake an immediate review of all associated assessment processes.
