RAF At Leuchars
EDM number 735 in 2015-16, proposed by Stephen Gethins on 19/11/2015.
Categorised under the topic of Armed forces.
That this House calls on the Secretary of State for Defence to consider re-opening the former Royal Air Force base Leuchars in Fife, operating alongside the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards and the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and others at Leuchars Station as part of the Strategic Defence and Security Review 2015; notes the facilities at Leuchars as first-class and among the best facilities that the Ministry of Defence has at its disposal to ensure the robust defence and monitoring of the UK's airspace, particularly in light of the heightened and increased threat to national security, that provides support from a strategically important coastal location; and considers the century-long relationship between the community in Leuchars and the RAF, and its contribution to the local economy, which has suffered since the RAF withdrawal.
