Quintinshill Rail Disaster Commemorative Carriage
EDM number 697 in 2015-16, proposed by Deidre Brock on 10/11/2015.
Categorised under the topics of Armed forces, Cultural heritage, Military operations and Railways.
That this House commends the work of the GCR Rolling Stock Trust to restore a Victorian wooden railway carriage and dedicate it to the honour of the 436 dead and injured in the Quintinshill rail disaster of 22 May 1915; recognises that most of the casualties in what remains the UK's worst ever rail disaster were from the Leith Battalion of The Royal Scots Regiment, killed in burning carriages on route to the Gallipoli campaign; appreciates that the replica carriage took 15 years to restore before its unveiling at Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre at a ceremony on Armistice Day 2015; and welcomes the work done by the GCR Trust to pay a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives in this horrific wartime event.
