That this House notes the campaign by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for formal protection of the title Veterinary Nurse; recognises that registered veterinary nurses are true professionals who can give medical treatment or carry out minor surgery on animals in accordance with Schedule 3 of the Veterinary Surgeons' Act 1966, follow a Code of Professional Conduct to maintain their skills and knowledge and are subject to a disciplinary process which protects the welfare of animals and provides reassurance for the public; and further notes that protecting the title Veterinary Nurse is widely supported by the general public as well as the British Veterinary Nursing Association and the British Veterinary Association, the respective representative bodies for veterinary nurses and veterinary surgeons in the UK.
