Categorised under the topics of Food, Health education and preventive medicine, Obesity and Taxation.
That this House welcomes the report by the British Medical Association entitled Food for Thought, which has identified the considerable risks of poor diet for public health; notes that the report identifies an obesity crisis in the UK and calls for a 20 per cent tax on sugary drinks to subsidize the cost of fruit and vegetables; further notes that the majority of the population does not consume the recommended level of fruit and vegetables, and that a sugar tax and other measures could reduce the prevalence of obesity by an estimated 180,000 people; is deeply concerned with record levels of tooth decay in children, record numbers of people with diabetes and record numbers of people with obesity; and calls on the Government to take the report's proposals into consideration.
This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs.
