Journeys To Europe Report
EDM number 1290 in 2015-16, proposed by Tasmina Sheikh on 22/03/2016.
Categorised under the topics of Asylum, Europe and International development.
That this House welcomes the report of the Overseas Development Institute, Journeys to Europe: the role of policy in migrant decision-making, published in February 2016, which recommends three key policies to lead to a better management of and response to the migration crisis in Europe; notes that these polices are to make journeys safer, to create a faster, fairer EU asylum system and, most importantly, to make the most of migration; calls on the Government to do all it can to publicly communicate the social and economic benefits of migration, to encourage circular migration and to invest in economic integration programmes for new arrivals; and further calls on the Government to work with the UKâs friends in the EU to help make journeys to Europe safer, rather than to pursue its isolationist agenda in Europe.
