That this House commends the excellent contribution that women in the North East of England make to the effective running and provision of public services in the region; thanks the Northern TUC for its analysis, which shows that 46 per cent. of all women who work in the North East of England are employed within the public sector, representing the highest proportion in England; acknowledges that women play a particularly essential contribution to society and the economy in the North East of England; is concerned that the planned cuts to public services will disproportionately affect women and their families in the North East; and calls on the Government, before the announcement of its Comprehensive Spending Review, to recognise the essential economic contribution of women to the North East and urgently to consider mitigating the harsh effect of planned public service cuts.
