Child Tax Credits
EDM number 336 in 2010-12, proposed by Catherine McKinnell on 28/06/2010.
Categorised under the topics of Children and families and Taxation.
That this House believes the increase of £150 in the per child element of child tax credit does not adequately compensate low-income families for the abolition of the Sure Start Maternity Grant, the Health in Pregnancy Grant and the removal of the additional baby element of child tax credit; further believes that these means of financial assistant represent real help for pregnant women and families with young children; further believes that such individuals have been disproportionately targeted by over £3 billion of cuts in support for families, including cuts in child benefit, child tax credits, child trust funds and help for pregnant mothers; and is concerned that the Government's proposals may negatively impact upon child poverty.
