Christmas Card Recycling
EDM number 488 in 2008-09, proposed by Martin Horwood on 19/01/2009.
Categorised under the topic of Waste management.
That this House supports the Woodland Trust Christmas Card Recycling Scheme running throughout January 2009; welcomes the aim of encouraging the public to recycle their cards at bins in WH Smith, Tesco, TK Maxx and Marks and Spencer; notes the success of last year's scheme which collected 73.6 million Christmas cards enabling the charity to plant 17,000 trees and saved thousands of tonnes of card from being dumped on landfill; exhorts Members of both Houses to recycle their cards with the charity; and believes that recycling has a crucial role in encouraging sustainable consumption in the face of the predicted impacts of climate change.
