EDM number 948 in 2007-08, proposed by Alan Meale on 18/02/2008.
Categorised under the topics of Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House is aware of Cancer Research UK's important new campaign, Screening Matters, which highlights the fact that thousands of women in Britain today are alive thanks to breast and cervical cancer screening they undertook; believes that the lives of many more men and women will be extended thanks to the new bowel cancer screening programme, provided greater numbers of eligible people are encouraged to participate; and calls upon the Government to issue strict guidelines to local primary care trusts on what is expected of them in respect of take up and frequency levels, the promotion of any new initiatives they may be introducing to increase participation and the plans they have to recruit and retain breast screening radiographers, radiologists and achieve the necessary accreditation of bowel screening colonoscopists.
