Extension Of Hill Farm Allowance
EDM number 2236 in 2007-08, proposed by Timothy Farron on 14/10/2008.
Categorised under the topic of Farmers.
That this House celebrates the work of Britain's hill farmers in maintaining the landscape, ensuring access to the countryside, delivering biodiversity and contributing to the nation's food security; is deeply concerned that the proposed details of the new Uplands Entry Level Scheme will leave many hill farmers unable to receive vital funding; fears that this could lead to many hill farmers going out of business; therefore calls on the Government to request permission from the European Union for a one year extension of the Hill Farm Allowance Scheme; and believes that this will allow the Commission for Rural Communities Upland Inquiry to be completed and will permit informed detail of the new funding system to be made available, which will give hill farmers a fairer deal.
