That this House welcomes the £25 million awarded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport to the UK Film Council to safeguard the future of the UK's national and regional film archives on the back of the Comprehensive Spending Review settlement; celebrates the work of the Council and in particular its regional film archives which have done so much to preserve and promote the UK's social and cultural heritage, including the preservation of the North West's own treasure trove, the Mitchell and Kenyon collection whose coverage of everyday life in Edwardian Britain (including Blackpool) attracted 4.5 million viewers on BBC TV; and looks forward to this extra funding both preserving fragile nitrate film and increasing accessibility to the public.
This motion has been signed by a total of 42 MPs.
