Contraception Awareness Week
EDM number 933 in 2006-07, proposed by Lorely Burt on 21/02/2007.
That this House supports Contraception Awareness Week, organised by the Family Planning Association from 12th to 18th February 2007, and its goal to raise awareness of and access to the 14 different methods of contraception; notes that the 2007 campaign focused on people's knowledge of reproduction and how that knowledge affects their decisions about contraception; is concerned about the widespread confusion about reproduction as outlined by a National Opinion Polls survey conducted for the week; observes the survey's findings that 39 per cent. of people rated their sex and relationships education as `poor' or `extremely poor' and 18 per cent. said they had never received any sex and relationships education at all; and calls on the Government to make personal, social and health education a statutory requirement in schools to provide people with the information and skills they need to make positive choices about all aspects of their health and their lives.
