Visit Of Robert Mugabe To France
EDM number 852 in 2006-07, proposed by Kate Hoey on 06/02/2007.
That this House deplores the brutality of the Zimbabwean regime and condemns any government in the European Union which invites Robert Mugabe or any senior member of his regime to attend any event held within the EU; expresses its deep concern at reports that the French government plans to allow or invite Robert Mugabe or senior members of his government to attend the France-Africa summit in Cannes on 15th and 16th February; and supports all those, including the French trade union movement, who are calling on the Government of France to refuse to give the Zimbabwean government the legitimacy that attendance at the summit would imply, until the fundamental rights of the people of Zimbabwe to free association, free speech and free and fair elections are respected.
