EDM number 713 in 2006-07, proposed by Edward Vaizey on 23/01/2007.
That this House commends Samaritans on its work to inform the national debate on health, work and wellbeing through the development of Stress Down Day on 1st February to educate the public about the dangers of unchecked stress; applauds the charity's ongoing work to develop innovative emotional support mechanisms; and calls for continued commitment and resources to tackle common mental health issues such as stress, anxiety and depression in order to achieve the Samaritans' vision of a society where fewer people die by suicide, people are able to explore their feelings and people are able to acknowledge and respect the feelings of others.
