Nhs Service Reductions In Brent

EDM number 665 in 2006-07, proposed by Sarah Teather on 17/01/2007.

That this House expresses strong concern over the impact of Brent Teaching Primary Care Trust's (tPCT) proposed savings programme of £53 million; believes that cuts to local health services will disproportionately affect the most disadvantaged and vulnerable communities in Brent; considers the deficit to be a direct consequence of the Government's financial mismanagement; condemns the Government for hiding its own failings by transferring debt to local authorities; notes that forcing savings onto Brent Council will have huge implications for vital preventative and social care work which is crucial in keeping people out of hospital and in keeping NHS costs down as a result; believes the tPCT's failure adequately to consult or inform the council and other stakeholders has caused chaos for long term planning; and calls on the Government to take immediate steps to secure the long term future of essential health services in Brent.
