Every Disabled Child Matters Campaign (No. 2)
EDM number 370 in 2006-07, proposed by Jeremy Hunt on 30/11/2006.
That this House congratulates the work of the Every Disabled Child Matters Campaign on highlighting the plight of the United Kingdom's 770,000 disabled children; welcomes the campaign's objectives of ensuring that disabled children live ordinary lives, matter as much as other children, are fully included in society and get the right services and support that they deserve; notes that 98 per cent. of disabled children are cared for by parents or other family members; recognises that the lack of short breaks for the families of disabled children is a key problem for parents and other carers; draws attention to the fact that six out of 10 of these families still do not receive adequate short breaks; further notes the impact on the mental health of family members caused by lack of short breaks; and therefore calls on the Government to work in partnership with the excellent voluntary organisations that exist in this sector to improve the provision and delivery of short breaks for such families.
