Probation Service Privatisation
EDM number 979 in 2005-06, proposed by Peter Kilfoyle on 08/11/2005.
That this House believes that the privatisation of the Probation Service would be incompatible with the role of probation officers as agents of justice and servants of their local communities, notes that the Government has produced no evidence to suggest that private companies have either the will or the capability to improve current probation services; and considers that the Government's proposals for the future of probation are likely to depress service standards, reduce local accountability, threaten public safety and initiate a dismal auction for franchises in British justice.
This motion has been signed by a total of 62 MPs.
