Repackaging Of Medicines
EDM number 970 in 2005-06, proposed by Michael Connarty on 08/11/2005.
That this House views with concern the reported 140 million medical packets which are imported across borders within the EU each year avoiding national price controls but entailing the removal of tamper-proof packaging and the original country's patient information leaflet, and repackaging them with added labels in the language of the country of final sale; recognises that there is an added danger from the lack of transparent supply chain integrity which can lead to the rise of incorrect dosages or inability to trace suspect or contaminated medicine batches or clearly identify counterfeit medicines disguised by this trade; and supports the creation of a pharmaceutical safety chain using new technologies to enable standardised unique product identification across the EU to authenticate medicines and protect the consumer.
