Icelandic Commercial Whaling
EDM number 2790 in 2005-06, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 18/10/2006.
That this House objects to the decision taken by the Icelandic government to resume commercial hunting of whales; notes that Icelandic ships will take nine fin whales, an endangered species, and 30 minke whales each year; recognises that Iceland committed themselves to end commercial whaling when they joined the International Whaling Commission (IWC) in 2002; expresses concern that this is another example of a movement towards a resumption of commercial whaling; and calls on the UK Government to work through the IWC to challenge the legality of the decision taken by Iceland and bring about an end to commercial whaling.
This motion has been signed by a total of 77 MPs.
