Water Affordability

EDM number 1591 in 2005-06, proposed by Tony Lloyd on 07/02/2006.

That this House congratulates the Government on its initiative to ensure that those on low incomes in Northern Ireland pay no more than three per cent. of their income on water and sewerage charges; notes that over 200,000 households will benefit from the new scheme; recognises that water is an essential item to life and the quality of life; believes that such assistance will both help individual households and contain levels of consumer debt; and calls upon the Government to extend this scheme to cover all low income households regardless of where they live across the United Kingdom.

This motion has been signed by a total of 63 MPs.
