Launch Of National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
EDM number 1445 in 2005-06, proposed by Ian Gibson on 23/01/2006.
That this House notes that bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the United Kingdom; further notes the importance of early detection as a means of saving lives; recognises the clinical consensus in support of screening as a cost-effective method of ensuring that bowel cancer is diagnosed early; welcomes the Government's repeated commitments to roll out the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in April; is alarmed at recent media speculation that this may now be delayed; and calls on the Government to clarify urgently its plans in relation to its commitments on bowel cancer screening.
