Specialist Care For Endometriosis
EDM number 546 in 2004-05, proposed by Anne Begg on 19/01/2005.
That this House recognises that endometriosis can be a distressing disease which can lead to infertility, severe and chronic pain, emotional distress, inability to finish an education or sustain a career, with subsequent financial cost to the individual and the State due to delayed and incorrect diagnosis, as well as ineffective hit-and-miss treatments; is concerned that endometriosis, which is still a relatively unknown disease despite the fact that there are an estimated two million sufferers in the UK alone, is not a current national or primary care trust priority; and therefore would urge the Secretary of State for Health to look at this with the utmost urgency to ensure that girls and women in the UK with endometriosis will receive the specialist care they need and rightly deserve, but which most are presently not getting.
