The Kings Own Royal Border Regiment

EDM number 311 in 2004-05, proposed by David Maclean on 06/12/2004.

That this House condemns the decision of the Government to cut four infantry regiments, especially at a time when the infantry is under-manned and over-stretched; in particular condemns the decision to disband the King's Own Royal Border Regiment and believes that a two battalion regiment in the North West called The Royal Lancashire Regiment, with no mention of the name Border will destroy infantry recruitment in Cumbria and is an insult to the tens of thousands of Cumbrians who have served with distinction in the KORBR; and calls on the Government to stop the regimental cuts or at least keep the name Border as part of an amalgamated North West Regiment.
