Medicine Advertisements
EDM number 182 in 2004-05, proposed by Paul Flynn on 25/11/2004.
That this House is concerned that misleading advertisements for medicines can confuse prescribers, patients and consumers leading to the unnecessary or inappropriate use of these products posing a potential danger to public health; calls for more effective regulation of advertising of pharmaceutical products; and believes this function should be removed from the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency and transferred to a new, independent regulator funded by a levy on the industry and that this body should adopt a robust approach to curb misleading campaigns and to take effective action when this occurs.
