Charging Blood Donors
EDM number 992 in 2003-04, proposed by Bob Spink on 19/04/2004.
That this House recognises the special nature of voluntary blood donoring in the United Kingdom, the excellent work of the Blood Donor Service and the worthy, generous and thoughtful dedication of the blood donors themselves to whom so many owe their lives; regrets that hospitals, which rely on the selfless help of blood donors to do their work, are now charging blood donors sums such as ú25 for information to prove that the blood donor is eligible to give blood and that this practice, essentially making a charge on blood donors, is annoying and discouraging blood donors; and calls on the Government to stop this practice.
