Live Transport Of Farm Animals
EDM number 989 in 2003-04, proposed by Alan Meale on 19/04/2004.
That this House is aware that European Union live animal transport legislation is currently being reviewed, which it was hoped would improve the methods and timescales used in such arduous procedures; is however alarmed by reports that a compromise on journey times, stocking densities and temperature levels in vehicles is being considered, which would worsen current welfare provisions; and calls upon the Government to reject such proposals, which would undoubtedly lead to greater levels of suffering for transported animals, as it would fail to protect their welfare during such unnecessary journeys.
