Execution Of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin
EDM number 956 in 2003-04, proposed by Alex Salmond on 31/03/2004.
That this House supports the text of the United Nations Security Council Resolution of 25th March that was vetoed by the United States and which the United Kingdom abstained on; therefore condemns the extrajudicial execution by the Israeli Government of Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, along with six other Palestinians, outside a mosque in Gaza City on 22nd March; expresses concern at the continued deterioration of the situation on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, as a result of the escalation of violence and attacks; condemns all terrorist attacks against any civilians, as well as all acts of violence and destruction; calls on all sides to undertake immediately an unconditional cessation of acts of violence, including all acts of terrorism, provocation, incitement and destruction; further calls for the end to all illegal measures and practices, and for respect for and adherence to international humanitarian law; and urges both parties to fulfil their obligations under the Road Map and to work with the Quartet to implement it, in order to achieve the vision of two states living side-by-side in peace and security.
