Degradable Plastic Bags
EDM number 49 in 2003-04, proposed by Caroline Spelman on 26/11/2003.
That this House recognises the environmental advantages of degradable plastics, namely that they can be composted, that they will degrade when exposed to a normal environment and that they are environmentally friendly in their production; notes that 80 per cent. of post-consumer plastic goes to landfill, with only 7 per cent. being recycled; and calls upon the Government to recognise a distinction on environmental grounds between conventional plastics and degradable plastic bags.
