Photodynamic Therapy
EDM number 19 in 2003-04, proposed by Tim Yeo on 26/11/2003.
That this House expresses regret at the Department of Health's decision to delay implementation of the NICE guidance on photodynamic therapy laser treatment from the normal three month implementation period to a period of nine months for those suffering from age-related macular degeneration; notes that this delay follows the second longest NICE appraisal on record; further expresses concern at RNIB estimates that approximately 2,800 people will unnecessarily lose their sight as a result of this delay; and calls on the Government to make PDT available within the standard three month period following NICE approval on 24th September.
