Applications For Leave To Remain As A Spouse

EDM number 188 in 2003-04, proposed by Tony Colman on 02/12/2003.

That this House notes that applicants for leave to remain as the spouse of a United Kingdom citizen have to surrender their travel documents and cannot take up employment for the duration of their application; deplores the gross delays at the Immigration and Nationality Department in dealing with such applications; and calls on the Secretary of State for Home Affairs to set a one-month deadline for dealing with routine spousal applications.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
