Suitable Housing For Disabled People
EDM number 173 in 2003-04, proposed by Anne Begg on 01/12/2003.
That this House congratulates the disability charity, John Grooms, on its latest initiative to highlight the shortage of suitable homes for physically disabled people, particularly wheelchair users; notes the findings of the recent John Grooms survey that a significant number of physically disabled people live in homes that are not suited to their needs, thus undermining their right to independence; and urges Her Majesty's Government to give a greater priority to ensuring that every physically disabled person can live in a home which is accessible, suitably-equipped and well-located for essential amenities, work and family.
