Fairtrade Foundation

EDM number 865 in 2002-03, proposed by Eric Joyce on 11/03/2003.

That this House congratulates the Fairtrade Foundation on its excellent work to date on behalf of food producers in the developing world; agrees that the Soil Association and producers of organic food within the UK play important roles in the UK food economy; but believes that any extension of the Fair Trade mark to cover the produce of the UK or another developed economy would lead to confusion amongst consumers and the resultant devaluation of the Fair Trade mark.
