President Of Southern Cyprus And Future Agreement;amdt. Line 2:
EDM number 796A2 in 2002-03, proposed by Andrew Dismore on 28/02/2003.
leave out from first 'of' to end and add 'the Republic of Cyprus, congratulates him on his election by securing a majority in the first round; considers that those who live in history like Mr Denktash are destined to repeat it; notes that President Papadopoulos's previous statements, whilst rightly condemning the Turkish invasion and continuing military occupation of northern Cyprus by Turkey, have been extremely conciliatory towards the Turkish Cypriot community and towards a united island; welcomes President Papadopoulos's commitment to working with the Annan plan towards a solution, expressed in his acceptance speech; and believes the real obstacle to progress is the intransigent attitude of Mr Denktash, who continues to refuse to negotiate sensibly and who is acting against the best interests and wishes of the Turkish Cypriot community.'.
This is a ammendment to 796.
