President Of Southern Cyprus And Future Agreement
EDM number 796 in 2002-03, proposed by Roy Beggs on 27/02/2003.
That this House takes note of the election by the Greek Cypriots of Tassos Papadopoulos as President of Southern Cyprus, recalls that he was a supporter of Milosevic, and was a leading member of EOKA dedicated to the expulsion of the Turkish Cypriots from Cyprus; notes that he is still committed to making Cyprus a Greek island; believes that the concerns voiced by the Turkish Cypriots during the negotiation process are now proved to be genuine and justified; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government and the United Nations to re-evaluate their positions on Cyprus and to treat the two peoples of the island henceforth as separate and equal entities in all respects.
