Beer Naturally Campaign

EDM number 738 in 2002-03, proposed by Janet Dean on 13/02/2003.

That this House recognises the historical and cultural significance that brewing holds in the United Kingdom; appreciates the importance in employment terms that brewing continues to play in the United Kingdom and the enjoyment that beer brings to millions of Britons and visitors everyday; recognises that the great British pint is not only the taste of the nation but also responsible for the direct employment, in brewing and distribution, of 107,000 British workers, as well as around a further 700,000 indirectly in retailing and related activities, and in addition supports United Kingdom farmers through the utilisation of 600,000 tonnes of United Kingdom malting barley; notes the launch of the Beer Naturally Campaign by a group of Britain's brewers to promote a better understanding of the heritage flavours and benefits of beer as a social drink; and calls upon the Government to support the efforts of the United Kingdom Brewing Industry to promote awareness of Britain's national drink and its major contribution to the United Kingdom economy.

This motion has been signed by a total of 96 MPs.
