VAT On Building Restoration
EDM number 547 in 2002-03, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 21/01/2003.
That this House notes with concern the number of home owners and organisations struggling to meet the cost of vital restoration work on buildings; further notes that much of the work is carried out on homes and historic buildings which often involves expensive renovation work; recognises the burden imposed in the cost of such work through VAT; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to reduce VAT on restoration work to its lowest possible level in order to help people renovate property and promote energy conservation and housing repairs and extensions, reducing the pressure for new build.
