Virgin Trains
EDM number 522 in 2002-03, proposed by Richard Younger-Ross on 15/01/2003.
That this House condemns the cuts in Virgin Trains' rail service to the South West announced this week; notes that the cut services will appear on the published timetable; believes that this will cause confusion to passengers leaving many stranded as they go to catch the last train that will no longer be running; further notes that such cuts are generally detrimental to the economy of the South West and will discourage businesses from setting up in Devon or Cornwall; calls upon Virgin Trains to re-establish these services immediately; and calls upon the Strategic Rail Authority to insist on the restoration of the services to the published timetable and to ensure that the rail service to the South West is improved beyond this.
