Road Transport Safety

EDM number 1736 in 2002-03, proposed by John McDonnell on 14/10/2003.

That this House is concerned that the injuries and fatalities suffered by many professional drivers each year are due to accidents in which fatigue has played a part; believes that the Government should ensure effective enforcement of the working directives so that road transport driver hours do not exceed 48 hours a week; and calls on the Government to implement ILO conventions limiting driving turns to four hours before rest and for the amendment of EU regulation 3820/85 to control working hours as well as driving time.

This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
